Damn You Barack Obama and Damn You John McCain

Well now that he’s got the democratic nomination under control he seems to be changing his tune on some things. During the Potomac Primaries he missed the voting on the FISA bill. He did issue a statement though and stated that he stood by senator Dodd and Senator Feingold in fighting that legislation. His exact quote was “”I am proud to stand with Senator Dodd, Senator Feingold and a grassroots movement of Americans who are refusing to let President Bush put protections for special interests ahead of our security and our liberty.”"

Now he’s changed his point of view to “It restores FISA and existing criminal wiretap statutes as the exclusive means to conduct surveillance — making it clear that the President cannot circumvent the law,” Obama said today.  Not a good sign to already be flip flopping especially on an issue that threatens our rights. I’m not happy about this at all. I’m aware that John McCain has flip flopped on this as well so he’s not getting off scott free. But it’s a shame that a candidate that is running on the basis of “Change” is pulling stuff like this already. I’m starting to think that we don’t have much of a chance of turning this country around with both candidates pandering to the telecoms.

I’m sorry but if the telecoms and the President were not doing anything wrong they wouldn’t need immunity. This whole situation stinks and it’s just another case of politicians doing what is needed to protect their own ass. Sadly the one time they are really bi-partisan is when they need to keep each other out of jail. I’m ashamed of Barack for bending on this issue and for John McCain for going along with it as well. Seems like a case of “Sure it’s bad for the people but at least it will get me elected, Frame of mind.”

Here is another quote from today where Barack Obama assures us he will keep an eye on things. “Given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as president, I will carefully monitor the program,” Sorry Mr. Obama you don’t get the right to give assurances on something that you’re flip flopping on. You’re just as likely to flip flop on that promise and abuse the law like President Bush has. It’s sad when politicians forget about the rights of every American citizen. It also makes you wonder how many of them truly believe in our constitution and not the all might dollar.

And you haven’t even brought up his “shifting sands” backtrack from a previous commitment to accept public financing!

These two instances illustrate why I am so cynical about Senator Obama and his message of “change.” Face it folks. This is politics as usual. Senator Obama is a politican and an opportunist–just like most politicans. To his legion of supporters I say “fine” just don’t give me any cock and bull story that he is “different” from other politicans.

I’ll actually have a post about the back tracking on public financing later tonight. It’s starting to seem that Barack can’t keep his word and says whatever it takes to get elected. Just like every other politician. It’s sad because this country is in need of a change. Guess instead of hope this election we will be relegated to voting for the lesser of two evils. Only thing different from Barack Obama and other politicians is that he doesn’t have nearly the track record of the others so we have to take him on his word for most things. Sadly if he keeps backtracking on stuff his word won’t mean anything and we won’t have anything at all to go on.

Right. And let’s not forget the 130 “present” votes when he served in the Illinois Senate. I would love to hear an Obama supporter tell me what this means? How “present” helps me to make a determination as to whether he deserves my vote for the highest office in the land?

Not to mention his six misvotes in the senate. Thank god the big red nuke button is in reality a lot more complicated. Wouldn’t want him to make a mistake on that. “Oops sorry I accidentally nuked Rhode Island. I thought I was calling for the maid to bring me my coffee.” Luckily for Barack he gets to stay in office though as nobody cares about Rhode island:)

Uh-huh. What I don’t get (at ALL) is that his supporters are not phazed by this one bit. Are they not paying attention? Do they not care that the “progressive candidate” has totally gone with the Republicans (again)? Why does this not bother them? Surely, I am bugged and even a bit stunned by this complete about-face!

We stay with Obama because the alternative is much worse.
