FightTheSmears.org a truly unbiased look at the candidates
This site is an alternative to the official Barack Obama smear fighting site http://www.FightTheSmears.com we got off to a fun start with aRickRolling parody of Baracks’ site. It got mentioned on all the cable news channels and a lot of political sites and that just wasn’t my fault. But it was a kick to see a parody site being touted as the real deal. Makes you wonder where journalistic integrity went. I’m still going to. I plan on keeping the humor going on here but i’m also going to strive to give an unbiased take on Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. Of course we will be reporting on John McCain and Cindy McCain as well. Why should Mr. Obama have a site where he can post about smears and John McCain not have that same right. Doesn’t feel fair to me and i’m just trying to even the field a little. We hope that you like what you see and we always look forward to hearing your opinion on the candidates and this site. We should be ready to go full steam ahead in the next few days. But feel free to leave a comment here or email me and i’ll get back to you A.S.A.P.
*UPDATE- I decided to launch a little early to give tribute to Tim Russert. I’ll be tweking the site and making it the best it can be over the next few days. So please bear with me and if you come over any errors please email me at xclusive@fightthesmears.org

You said, “Why should Mr. Obama have a site where he can post about smears and John McCain not have that same right. Doesn’t feel fair to me and i’m just trying to even the field a little.”
How touching. One question: has someone stopped John McCain from putting up his own fightthesmears website? And what are these “smears” about John McCain that are supposedly being circulated on the internet? Name 3, please.
John McCain is already getting a easy ride, some one need to do a study on how negative fox news and sean hannity is concerning barack obama and how loving they are to john mccain. they need to so a survey on all the reports concerning the presidential canidates. post it or report it that i may see really how one sided we the media are.
Thanks for the question. There is nothing keeping John McCain from putting up an anti smear site. But if he does that will be slanted in his favor. Just Like Barack Obamas will slant towards him. I plan on being as partial as I can be. honestly right now Barack Obama and his supporters have run a fairly clean campaign. I’m happy about that as lies do none of us any good. But you know that John McCain has been the victim of smear attacks before. During the 2000 election when George Bush’s people spread the rumors of him going crazy while a prisoner of war, Cindy McCain being a drug addict and Their adopted Bangladeshi daughter being a black love child of his. It’s going to be a big campaign and Mr. Obama can’t control every little aspect and I’m just her to report the truth to the best of my ability.
As an proud American it would be great to have a campaign for once that was about the issues. I don’t agree with every stance or Mr. McCain or Mr. Obama but at least those are solid verifiable facts once they set the policy down on paper. I don’t care to hear about John McCains age as an issue, Or if Barack Obama is a smoker. All that stuff really doesn’t matter. I want to get to the heart of the issues and help people make the best choices they can for the next President of the United States Of America. Sure if issues are in the news I’ll post about them but if it’s fluff I’ll make sure people know the facts and that it’s not really an issue they should be worrying about.
Hi, Dennis, You slipped in there while I was responding to bethechange. I tend to get a little long winded which is a good thing I guess since I have this blog now. It will at least give my wife a break from all my talking about politics:)
I agree with you on how fox news is amazingly over critical of Barack and goes easy on McCain. It’s to the point where we should file a class action lawsuit for false advertising for their slogan. Fair and Balanced that’s a laugh. Then of Course there is MSNBC that is leaning towards Mr. Obama. Then there is CNN and I don’t think even they know what that are doing these days. They are all over the map it seems. It’s sort of sad that you can’t take news at it’s face value anymore and you have to do the legwork yourself to find the full story. There used to be a lot more integrity in journalism but those days are long gone. But on the other hand this site wouldn’t exist without the medias lack of fact checking.
I look forward to giving the facts here to the best of my ability and also learning from the visitors that come here. Maybe with all the different viewpoints here we can all figure out the truth together.

Please…and CNN and MSNBC aren’t for Obama??? Get real. Not to mention ABC, CBS, NBC, or online sites like Huffington Post, WSJ, DailyKos.
How dare these call themselves unbiased and objective? How dare they say they are reportign news…they are twisting the news AND in favor of Barack Obama.
At least Hannity has a counterpart who is Colmes. Colmes is Pro-Obama. Not to mention, Fox almost always puts but a counterpart to whomever their expert is or even just puts up a Democrat.
Please…and CNN and MSNBC aren’t for Obama??? Get real. Not to mention ABC, CBS, NBC…
Sounds like you’re repeating the right-wing “Liberal Media” myth they keep shoving down our throats. But no matter how many times you repeat it it’s still not true. The Right-wing corporate media puts everything Obama says under a microscope and lets McCain get away with anything. If they were really pro-Obama the Rev Wright story would be a rumor in somebody’s blog someplace, not front page top story in every news cycle for 2 weeks! 40% of Americans wouldn’t think we invaded Iraq because Saddam Hussein attacked us on 911, and 15% of us wouldn’t think Senator Obama was a Moslem.
To call Colmes a “counterpart” to Hannity is ridiculous. He voted Republican in the last 3 elections and just serves as a obvious straw-man punching bag for Hannity to beat up on.
Which Air America radio show host has his own TV show on FOX? On the other side you have Hannity, O’Riley, and Rush Limbaugh for God’s sakes who on NBC is as partisan as Rush Limbaugh? Fox is a 24 hour free GOP commercial.
Racism is alive and well in America. People are quick to deny it has anything to do with race, but wake up. If it was another white man running against McCain, they’d be tippy-toeing around each other, playing nicey-nice, practically licking each other’s butt. And so would every American.
Some of us are voting intelligently, educating ourselves on the facts and issues as best we can. I’ve looked around the forums, and cannot believe the hatred and ignorance being spewed - on BOTH sides. Most American voters just watch each news station between soap operas and sporting events, trying to sort out fact from fiction as the talking heads spoon-feed us their personal slant.
It seems to be a thing of the past for many Americans to put their energy into educating themselves during election years. Little brains! I understand what is behind it - and I’m feeling the pinch as much as anyone in these harsh times, a bit more than some, and not as bad as some others.
But I have turned off the friggin’ TV.
Thanks for letting me throw in my two cents. Glad I found this page, now bookmarked.

I agree, Racism is alive and well not only in America but across the world. It’s sad that people can’t see each other for who they are. But it’s how things are. There are many people that will vote for Barack Obama because he is black. There are also many people that will vote for John McCain just because he is white. It’s a real shame and a lot of them it’s because that’s all they have been exposed to their whole life.
All we can do is hope to educate them and remember it does no good to hate them for who they are. Once you become filled with hate for somebody else you are on the wrong path.
As you can see this site was created by the medias jumping on a story and not checking the facts. It sucks that it’s come to this but I hope that some people can be educated by this site as I’ll be checking the facts. Oh and if there is an error I won’t hide it on page 20 of the blog I’ll be sure to make it the featured article so people know the truth.
I truly believe that we’re the best country on the planet and we can have a bright future once again. But that’s not going to happen as long as the American people sit home watching the news waiting for Britney Spears to have another breakdown. We need a revolution in this country and that’s a revolution of truth. We as the American people need to get the president and a congress that will do what’s in the interest of the American people not those that will help them stay in power.
We need to refocus our energy on American pride. All the way from our crumbling infrastructure to most importantly our education. Thank for contributing to the blog, Lana. I’m just one man but if we can get enough people wanting to make a change together we can do it.

Welcome to the blog Jersey. It’s great to have you here. I’ve never had the problem of voicing my opinion and sometimes that may make people mad. But sometimes you need to get mad to realize the truth. I’m of the opinion that if you know something is wrong and you continue to let it happen you’re just as guilty of that wrong doing.
I would love for a man like J.F.K. to come around again we need something like that to really get this country going again. Funny thing is that even he would have issues getting elected if he was running today. The way the media slants everything he would be ripped to shreds. It’s a whole new ballgame these days and hopefully we can find a way to get back to the issues and find some solutions to make this a great company once again.
Thanks for the kind word Jersey and humor is a great way to make people think about the issues and when I post something humorous there is usually a message hidden in there somewhere. I look forward to making people laugh and think with this blog and getting people to really start wanting to change this country for the better. Before it’s to late.
I find TriciaNC’s comments about a FOX news bias for MCain incorrect and unsupportable. She needs to offer some solid examples. People need to back up their claims of preferential treatment.
Actually, FOX has done, to date, a far better job of being fair and objective during the 2008 campaign than the other networks–especially MSNBC. My case in point: coverage of Senator Clinton and her campaign. FOX was really the only segment of the mainstream media (MSM) that gave her a fair shake. And this is not just my opinion, but has been stated by Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, a strong supporter and prominent surrogate of the Hillary Clinton campaign. Read on:

I really love the idea of this site and want to CHALLENGE all guest commenters from either side to back up their assertions with FACTS as I have just done. Enough of these sweeping generalizations that somebody/organization/news outlet is “negative” to one candidate or the other. Let’s talk specifics here. O’Reilly has a “no spin zone” well let’s make this a no bullshit zone.
What FACTS? You just gave us your opinion that somehow FOX is fair and balanced and cited an opinion of a Clinton surrogate that Fox gave them a “Fair Shake” Given Hillary’s recent ties with Rupert Murdoch, that’s not surprising. Not to mention Rush Limbaugh calling for Republicans to vote for Hillary in the primaries. The fact the Fox promoted Hillary -who voted to give Bush authorization to go to war 3 times, supported NAFTA and has generally been “Republican Lite” in the Senate isn’t any indication that FOX isn’t just an arm of the GOP spin machine. O’Reily has a “no spin zone” LOL now that’s funny. Show me the Obama staffer who says FOX gave HIM the most “fair shake.”
Q: “Why should Mr. Obama have a site where he can post about smears and John McCain not have that same right. Doesn’t feel fair to me and i’m just trying to even the field a little.â€
A: John McCain is NOT being subjected the false, racist, deplorable smears put out by truly despicable people with the goal of frightening the American public into 4 more years of republican incompetence. That’s why. And if he needed a site like Obama’s he would have one. It’s not as though Obama was given an sort of exclusive right to make his fightthesmears site. That fact that you don’t understand that leads me to the conclusion that there will never be anything intelligent/worth reading posting at this pitiful site and your only traffic will come from people mis-typing the address to Barack’s site. What a claim to fame! Now I leave this site forever and predict your blog is going nowhere.
To “Dem in Chicago”
What “racist deplorable smears” are you referencing? And by whom? Be specific! Lately, the MSM has tried to blame Rush Limbaugh for the purported “whitey” tape. This is simply, albeit inconveniently, not true. I know as I read EVERYTHING. The “tape” was started by one Larry C.Johnson, a regular contributor to The Daily Koz and a known liar. He is NOT a Republican or McCain operative. Rush has said all along he did not believe this tape existed.
My friend, you seem to forget how John McCain himself was “Swift-boated” during the 2000 primary campaign when both his military service and his personal life were impugned.
I love how you call this site “pitiful” before it even gets started. I look forward to reading some good solid, fact-specific arguments for BOTH sides but you have not done much to help your candidate. This shrill righteous indignation routine from the Obama camp is getting old. The Senator from Illinois is running for the highest office in the land–the most powerful position in the world–and as such we Americans have every right to ask substantive questions about his background–i.e. questionable friends/business associates/mentors.
But that’s right. You implied you don’t really want to hear what anyone else has to say. Well, so long. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!
Racism is alive and well? Well, yes it is! Because I, as a thinking and rational white woman, voted for Hillary Clinton and have not changed my mind about Barack Obama, I have been called a racist- by Tim Wise in his, “your whiteness is showing”, post. This has been copied and reposted by MANY women and men, all over ther web. When I said I found it racist and biased, I was told that I am a racist (fill in the blank with anything but woman)… I find this disheartening. And, I am the vlue-eyed devil?
Good job, Obama supporters- way to go with that “unity” you say you want.. hmm?

(1) Senator McCain fathered dark-skinned children.
That actually came from the Bush primary campaign in 2000 and was made up and used by McCain’s fellow Republicans.
(2) Senator McCain is really the Manchurian Candidate.
That’s kind of a matter of opinion –that he is controlled by outside forces especially corporate lobbyists isn’t the same kind of smear as “Barak Obama is a Muslim” because the latter is completely made-up.
(3) I’ve never heard anybody on any major network question McCain’s POW status. I have on the other hand heard Obama smears repeated over and over and over…

Thanks for getting in the spirit of the site. It’s always my intention of backing up things with facts and I would hope that all posters here will do the same. I think that all the news media is biased these days. I think that Fox is republican slanted for sure but it’s only fair since msnbc is slanted towards the democrats.
It’s a shame that people take what any of them say seriously these days. For instance Shawn Hannity is obviously slanted very much towards the republican side. But at least he doesn’t try and hide it. You can take him at face value. He’s not really a reporter anyways he’s a commentator and he’s commentating on his point of view that’s his job.
On MSNBC you have Keith Olbermann that heavily pushed Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton. These so called news channels only have small blocks of actual news casts these days and the the rest of the time they are entertainment shows about the news. So sure you can still learn from them but you have to take it with a grain of salt and do your own research.
Thanks for willing to back things up and fight for the truth. I believe it’s our duty as Americans to do that especially when it comes to politics.

Sorry that you feel this way. I made the site as a joke. MSNBC just happened to pick up on it. The reactions from both republicans and democrats were very interesting. I got hate mail and fan mail and hateful calls as well. I find it funny that people think that I would take them seriously when they act like that. It really makes me mad when people try and take away my right especially one as important as the first amendment. It’s the duty of every American citizen to fight for their right or they are in danger of losing them. That’s my opinion anyways and remember these rights are what helps make this country so great.
I’m not in this to make a profit so as long as I’m able to make my voice heard and help people make the right decision on election day. This blog will not be a failure. It will be a failure if i give up and don’t go through with what is in my heart. I believe that it’s my duty now to give people the tools to make a good decision and not go on the spin of the media and all the other bullshit. We’re all about the facts here and i’m sorry that you can’t handle that.

I always love people that call you racist just because you don’t agree with them. It’s those kind of people that are just as bad as the racists themselves. How dare you have a difference of opinions of other people just because you don’t agree with their policies. It must be because they are black. Well wouldn’t that make them racist for voting for Barack Obama because he is black? Because by their way of thinking it isn’t about the issues.
We all know that it’s people like this that are making the problems in this country bigger than they really are as they thrive off of it. People are all the same Black, White, Hispanic, Asian and all other nationalities. It’s about making their lives better and the lives of their children better. I love cultural differences. It makes the world a lot more interesting. It’s the closed minded people that are the problem. They need to stop throwing down the race card and fighting for the rights they really want.
Next time something like that happens just remind them that with that attitude they are the ones being racist because you care about the issues.

Great article. This is exactly the sort of thing this site is all about. We will get to the bottom of issues and let people know the truth so that Mr. McCain or Mr.Obama don’t get swift boated. This job they are fighting for is the most important in the world and it’s out duty as Americans to cut through the bullshit and elect the right man for the job for the next 4 years.
Re: Annebeck’s Comment
Yes, racism really is alive and well in this country, there is no denying that. Maybe you don’t believe it is but as any non-white person can tell you (and MOST white people can tell you) it is. If you still aren’t convinced, you need merely Google three words: barack obama monkey and see what you get. That’s very mild in comparison to some of the other stuff.
I find it funny that people criticize those who claim that if you don’t vote for Obama then you must be racist. Not everyone who isn’t voting for Obama is a racist. However, you have to admit that there are plenty of people who won’t vote for him merely because he is black. If you don’t believe that is true, then we are living in different Americas. You do have to wonder about people who won’t vote for Obama merely because he beat Hillary in the primaries. Their policies are pretty much the same. To those people who say “I have a feeling about him” or “Something about him rubs me the wrong way” and use that as a ‘reason’ to vote for McCain, well, I say: Maybe you need to examine yourself and engage in some internal analysis. I know plenty of people not voting for Obama for substantive reasons: like they don’t agree with his tax plan and don’t agree with universal health care or his trade policies or whatever…Unfortunately, I know other people who aren’t voting for him because they ‘have a funny feeling about him’. I tell them exactly what I typed above.
In fact, I agree that those people who automatically claim race are wrong, but they are no different then the people who said that if you don’t vote for Hillary, you must be sexist. Both groups are wrong. Geraldine Ferraro is a good example of this. I used to respect her but don’t anymore. She claimed, for example, that Obama ran a sexist campaign, yet when pushed cannot name one instance where Obama has been sexist - other than Obama said that Clinton is “likeable enough”. How is that sexist? To many people she is actually “unlikeable”. Unless Ferraro thinks that all women are likeable. We all know that’s not true. Someone else said, well he called a reporter “Sweetie.” So what? I call people sweetie all the time and I’m a woman. How ridiculous. And my personal favorite: “Well, he pulled out her chair for her at one of the debates.” Where I’m from that’s called manners.
There were so many other truthful, hurtful things Obama could have brought up about Hillary — one only needs to read headlines from the Clinton presidency to find them — and he didn’t. I’d say that’s more civil than he needed to be. People should stop blaming overzealous/negative Obama supporters for things and look at the man himself. Obama supporters should stop hating Clinton. McCain supporters should stay out of the mess too.
Another thought: Yes, McCain bore the brunt of nasty despicable rumors about his patriotism and his family. They were disgusting. Those disgusting things were made by other republicans if I recall correctly.
Re: this site — I will admit that I find it hard to believe that you are going to be objective, especially considering that your site started with a parody of Obama’s Fight the Smears site and in fact, has the same name. Maybe it’s your way of getting cheap publicity, but when your very FIRST act is to copy Obama’s site and post flat out lies, well, you’ve already skewered your own objectivity, no? I’ll read with an open mind for now, but I’ll be frank — I am going to have to be convinced.
why did obamas campaign have the ladies with the head sarfs remove whydoes he try to hide his real believes.
I have a question. Who are you, Kevin? I mean this sincerely - I think it would be appropriate if you would post a biography or some professional information about you so I can understand where this blog is coming from. You know, source credibility and all that? I don’t need to know your politics (that’s not my point) but I am interested in your credentials.
Thanks much,
Patti
That’s a very fair request Patti. I’ll have a permanent bio page for myself and other bloggers that join the team at http://www.fightthesmears.org/bio/ I added a link to the top of the page labeled at About Us. I’ll try and get that up and running later tonight and I’ll make a post letting people know to look for it. I’m still waiting for my new computer to be delivered and the one I’m on is very buggy right now. So please understand if it takes a little longer as I’m trying to salvage a lot of data that has been compromised by the crash. I’ll catch up on all the comments I’ve missed out on as well.
Hey, all! I found your blog via an MSNBC article.
I’m a bit confused–your impartial, unbiased reporting/analysis/blogging is housed in a site that mocks Obama’s Fight the Smears site? It really sounds insincere to me…all that lovely rhetoric about “truth.” I browsed your site and your comments, and I see that you’re attempting to be fair, but, you know, I’m really just not convinced.
For starters, you ought to really change the name…
And, sure, McCain was under a LOT of unfair, unfounded and horrible slurs back in the 2000 presidential primary, but who made those slurs?
(Hint: It wasn’t the Democrats.)

I think it is unprincipled and opportunistic of you to launch a website called “fight the smears” right after Obama’s campaign launched theirs. You are obviously making money off it, with advertising for both candidates t shirts, bumper stickers, etc.
Change the name. Make it “Fair and balanced…really.” or something else which reflects your “middle of the road” views, which by the way are fine with me. Just don’t take advantage of Obama’s site (http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/fightthesmearshome/) for those of you who, like me, were looking for that on google and got this instead.
The real fight the smears site exists to fill a real need of countering all of the weird anti-obama lies out there.
Typical white person’s entry on the “hanuman devotee” smear is just another example of this. If you go to the link posted, you will read that Hanuman devotees in India decided on their own to present this charm to Obama. He gets hundreds of unsolicited gifts, photos to sign, requests for autographs, etc, every week. Most celebrities do.
Obama never said that he was a “devotee of Lord Hanuman” or had “deep faith in Hanuman.” That was all made up by the people sending the gift.
Perhaps this site should be renamed, “Help Spread the Smears.”
Okay, everyone is fighting for their side, but in order to accurate report information in talking to other people can you guys give facts? Who’s got the goods they can report. Are their any unbiased facts? Thanks.
